SRVUSD to receive $2.9 million in State matching funds for school construction

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District will receive more than $2.9 million in school construction funding from the State of California. San Ramon Valley's share is part of the State Allocation Board (SAB) disbursement of more than $519 million for 230 school construction and modernization projects across 92 school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools throughout the state. The SAB meets monthly to allocate state matching funds for the construction of new classrooms, the modernization of existing schools, and other programs to improve learning environments. The funds allocated by the SAB are from voter-approved general obligation bonds that cannot be used for school operational expenses. The $2.9 million allocation to San Ramon Valley will complement the District's Measure D School Construction Bond Program. Measure D was passed by local voters in November 2012.

Student surveys show 85% of SRVUSD secondary students "feel safe" on campus

In April, approximately 20,000 SRVUSD students, grades 4-12, participated in the District's 2nd Annual Bullying Prevention and Awareness survey. The purpose of this survey was to ask our local youth what types of bullying they see and/or feel and what adults on our local school campuses can do to reduce/prevent bullying behaviors. Gathering this information, using multiple measurement tools, has been a great way to verify the data and see what programs have been effective and where we still have a need to improve. Said Scott Gerbert, SRVUSD Coordinator for Student Services. According to both survey instruments, the percentage of students who feel safe on campus has steadily improved over the last few years. According to the California Healthy Kids Survey data, middle school students who report feeling safe at school has grown by 10% over the last 5 years. In addition, high school students, according to our District Survey, report feeling safe or very safe 88% of the time at school. The high school survey was taken in April by 7,524 students in grades 9-12 and includes all six high schools in the District.
