Posted 3/28/19

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) named Jennifer Border  to the top honor of the 2019 SRVUSD Classified Employee of the Year, while also recognizing 43 staff members as Classified Employees of the year for the school or department which they serve. These exemplary employees are recognized by the District for their strong work ethic and commitment and service to the schools and students of the SRVUSD.

Each year, the SRVUSD honors one classified employee from each department and each school site. In addition, one District-wide recipient is chosen from among all the nominated employees. This year’s ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at John Baldwin Elementary School.

“The duties that our classified employees perform are crucial to the success of our schools. Our classified employees are at the core of all of the work that we do as a District and we could not educate our students without them,” SRVUSD Superintendent Rick Schmitt said.

Classified employees include custodians, instructional assistants and paraprofessionals, clerical and technological support staff, maintenance and groundskeepers, transportation drivers, food service workers, crossing guards and campus security personnel, and District Office classified staff.

In addition to celebrating all department and school site winners, Border, a paraeducator from Alamo Elementary School, was named the SRVUSD’s Classified Employee of the Year. Border has been at Alamo Elementary for 10 years and performs an array of duties including classroom paraeducator and noon duty supervisor.

Alamo Elementary School Principal Stan Hitomi described Border as, “Alamo’s Swiss Army Knife.” He went on further to say, “There is no member on our staff, classified or certificated, who has contributed more to the culture and success of our school than Jen Border.”

Border was also chosen as the Contra Costa County Classified Employee of the Year in the Paraeducator and Instructional Assistant category. Her nomination packet from the County will be forwarded to the California Department of Education (CDE) for further consideration of recognition at the State level.
