36th Annual Run for Education!
Posted 9/24/19

The biggest family event of the year in the San Ramon Valley is quickly approaching! On Sunday, October 13, 2019, close to 9,000 participants will put on their athletic shoes for the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s annual Run for Education.

This is the only event in the San Ramon Valley that has participants, volunteers and spectators from all 36 San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) schools, representing the communities of Alamo, Danville and San Ramon. It is also the largest run that supports education in Northern California.

The largest fundraiser of the event – the Rotary Club of San Ramon’s Auction for Education – opens November 1st  and runs through November 9th . Over $40,000 in auction items have been donated by businesses and community members. Last year, the Auction raised almost $62,000 for SRVUSD schools.

The Run for Education has been a tradition in the San Ramon Valley for 36 years. It is the primary fund-raising activity for the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation (SRVEF), a non-profit organization that supports and promotes education in partnership with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Together with its 35 affiliates, SRVEF raises more than $8 million a year to support education.

This year’s event will be featured at a new location in the heart of Bishop Ranch next to San Ramon’s new City Center! Race day includes a 5k Run/Walk and a 10k (both certified by the USA Track and Field) . The 5k Run/Walk starts at 8:30 a.m. at 2700 Camino Ramon in San Ramon. The 10k starts at 8 a.m. at Charlotte Wood Middle School (600 El Capitan Drive, Danville).

“This event comes together each year due to the tremendous support of our community,” said SRVEF Executive Director Vanessa Berastain. “Walk along our course on race day and you will see families laughing and smiling with new and old friends. The positive energy is amazing! We want to thank Chevron for being the presenting sponsor of the Run for Education and being an active participant in the community where the company’s headquarters are located.”

The community is encouraged to also join the SRVEF on Saturday, October 12, 2019 for these events happening at 2700 Camino Ramon in San Ramon: the Health & Wellness Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the always popular Mini-Run at 2 p.m. for children 2-6 years old, and for the second year, the Friendship Run! The Friendship Run is an event that is specially designed for our students and participants with special needs, and takes place at 10 a.m. Friends or caregivers can participate for free!
