Coronavirus Update 2/5/2020
Posted 2/5/20

We know that concerns continue to surface about the coronavirus and our schools. As promised, we want to bring you the latest information. The Contra Costa County Office of Education has created a dedicated webpage on their website to house information about the novel coronavirus. Included on this page you will find the most recent communication from the Contra Costa Health Department about protocols associated with the spread, containment and prevention of the coronavirus. The SRVUSD continues to take its direction from these local authorities.

The letter from the county indicates that people coming to the United States from China after February 3rd will be quarantined for 14 days. Students who are returning from China should comply with all recommendations and quarantines. Students who stay home due to the coronavirus will be supported in their learning by their school.

As has been widely reported in the news lately, while we are seeing lots of headlines about the coronavirus, per a report from NPR, the seasonal flu has killed over 8,000 Americans, including 100+ Californians. By comparison, CNN reports that there have been approximately 500 deaths globally from the novel coronavirus. We provide this information as a reminder to remain vigilant in your commitment to consider those around you by staying home if you are sick and to remain respectful of all students and staff by refraining from speculation about who may or may not pose an increased risk.

Information about the coronavirus changes often. We are committed to keeping you up-to-date as we receive relevant new information.
