The SRVUSD Board of Education is pleased to announce that they have selected Dr. John Malloy as the finalist for our next Superintendent. Following an extensive search process including input from all stakeholders, and after a series of all-day candidate interviews, Dr. John Malloy emerged as the finalist to replace retiring Superintendent Rick Schmitt. Dr. Malloy, who prefers to be called John, is currently the Director of Education (Superintendent) at the Toronto District School Board in Toronto, Canada. The Toronto District School Board is the largest in Canada and serves over 247,000 students in 583 schools throughout Toronto. John is an experienced educator who is looking forward to bringing his expertise to the students, staff and families of the SRVUSD.

Dr. John Malloy was selected as the finalist from an outstanding field of candidates. The Board expects to take action to confirm an offer of employment to Dr. Malloy at an upcoming Board Meeting.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Malloy to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District,” SRVUSD Board President Greg Marvel said. “He quickly emerged as an outstanding candidate whose vast experience and strong leadership abilities will greatly benefit the students, families and employees of the SRVUSD, as we navigate a new path forward in education during these uncertain times. The Board thanks Rick Schmitt for his service to our District and looks forward to the next chapter for our schools under the stewardship of Dr. Malloy.”

Bringing over thirty years of experience to the job, John has served in both public and private education in the United States and Canada. He is a strong communicator who is focused on building and strengthening relationships across educational groups, parents, community stakeholders, partners, peers and all staff. John is an advocate for the needs of all students and is willing to confront racism, inequity and discrimination that can impede student learning. He has a proven track record of improving student achievement and well-being, as well as building public confidence. He looks forward to settling in the San Ramon Valley and getting to know and become involved with the community.
