Back-to-School News and Information
Posted 7/30/21

Dear SRVUSD Staff and Families/Caregivers,

We are very excited to welcome everyone back to a new school year. Whether virtual or in-person, we have a lot to look forward to.

Last week, we sent the first of several communications with important information about the start of the upcoming school year. With so much going on, we have a lot of information to pass along. We will work hard to break the communications down into manageable sizes, but we ask that you please read each one carefully. Much of the information requires action on your part or is time sensitive.

Important Reminder for High School Families

In our message last week, we alerted you to the recent legislation that allows students enrolled in a high school course during the 2020-21 school year to select to replace a letter grade with a Pass (grade A thru D-) or No Pass (grade F) designation with no negative impact on their GPA.

By law, the window of opportunity for requesting the grade change is 15 days from the initial notification. SRVUSD families have until Thursday, August 5, 2021 to submit a request for change to their high school registrar. Please make note that, by law, this is a firm deadline and no requests will be considered after August 5th.

The California Department of Education recently published a list of California Colleges and Universities that have agreed to accept transcripts with a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter grade for purposes of admission. View the full list.

The required template and more information can be found on the California Department of Education (CDE) website

School Lunch Available at No Cost to All Students

Due to changes to the Federal and State Child Nutrition Programs, school lunch will be available to all SRVUSD students at no cost for the 2021-22 school year.

We encourage all students to participate in the no-cost school lunch program each day. The more who do, the better the program will be. Additionally, some schools will be offering grab and go breakfasts. More information will be posted on the Child Nutrition website soon.

Student Username and Password Changes - Action Needed

Effective August 1, 2021

User Names

Effective August 1, 2021, all SRVUSD student account usernames will change from the current format of: dv.asmith@students.srvusd.net to: 857498@students.srvusd.net (where the number is the student’s ID#). No action from parents is necessary to make this change. The District will make the change for all student accounts automatically.

The main goal of restructuring how student accounts are named is to give each student an account name that they can keep for their entire time in the district, rather than changing the student username every time a student transitions to a new school. This will also decrease the number of duplicate accounts in our system.

We plan to email all secondary students directly with this information, but also want to ensure that families/caregivers have the information and are aware of the upcoming changes.

Passwords

Elementary Students - No action needed

  • Passwords need to be changed so they are no longer the student ID number.

  • When everyone returns to the classroom (in-person or virtual) at the beginning of the school year, teachers will work with students to create a new, unique, personal password.

  • Please note: K-5 students will not have access to their Google account from Aug. 1st until Aug. 10th.

  • Accounts will be accessible again once passwords are updated.

Incoming 6th grade Students - Action needed

  • Parents will receive new login credentials and temporary passwords for students via email. The email will arrive from the sender “EdTech@srvusd.net” and will include individual usernames and passwords for each student in their household.

  • Prior to Aug. 10th and the start of school, students should change their temporary password by visiting https://password.srvusd.net. Click here for  instructions.

Incoming 7th - 12th Grade Students - Action needed

  • Now that every students’ login account includes their student ID number, students must change their login password to something that does not include their ID number.

  • If students have not updated their passwords since December 2020, then parents will be sent a temporary password via email from the sender “EdTech@srvusd.net.” Parents should use the temporary password to help students create a new password.

Beginning August 1st, all students will need to use the new login credentials format and/or updated passwords to access their official SRVUSD student account.

If you have any questions or need help, please email parentithelp@srvusd.net.

New Learning Management System for the 2021-22 School Year

Just a quick reminder that SRVUSD is transitioning to Schoology, a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS), for the 2021-22 school year.  Schoology is a tool for all grade levels that will be used to post class and course materials and curriculum, reports of student progress and grades, and will be the main communication tool between classrooms, students and families.

School Loop will no longer be available and Google Classroom will no longer be in use for student-facing material.  The addition of Schoology will not affect our use of the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Teachers have been training on the new platform since the spring. We will provide more specific information soon, for both family and student use.

Here is an introductory video for more information.

Questions can be sent to Christopher George.
