Raising Future Ready Students

Check out a recording of the first session of the SRVUSD AI Parent Education Series, "Raising Future-Ready Students." This series is designed to help San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) parents and guardians understand the role of artificial intelligence in their children’s education. Our goal is to explain how SRVUSD approaches integrating AI into education. We will highlight the district's guidelines and empower you to help your children navigate this technology safely and ethically.

PARENT RESOURCES

A Parent Guide to AI

Parents play a vital role in helping students navigate the digital world and use AI tools responsibly.
  • Review Responsible Use Agreements (RUAs): Annually review and discuss the Responsible Use Agreements with your child. These documents outline the rules for using District Technology, including a commitment to ethical use and following all laws.
  • Discuss Transparency: Encourage your student to be transparent about how they use AI. Ask them: Did the AI write this? What part of this assignment was your original work?
  • Focus on Critical Thinking: AI generates information, but it can be biased or inaccurate. Reinforce the importance of your child critically evaluating AI outputs and verifying information from reliable sources.
  • Promote Deeper Engagement: Discuss how AI can be a starting point, not an end point. Encourage your student to use AI to find new ways to learn or be creative, rather than just solving a problem quickly.
  • Course Syllabi: Read and discuss with your student. Be sure you discuss their AI policies and expectations.
