A PARENTS GUIDE

A PARENTS GUIDE

Parents play a vital role in helping students navigate the digital world and use AI tools responsibly.
  • Review Responsible Use Agreements (RUAs): Annually review and discuss the Responsible Use Agreements with your child. These documents outline the rules for using District Technology, including a commitment to ethical use and following all laws.
  • Discuss Transparency: Encourage your student to be transparent about how they use AI. Ask them: Did the AI write this? What part of this assignment was your original work?
  • Focus on Critical Thinking: AI generates information, but it can be biased or inaccurate. Reinforce the need for your child to critically evaluate AI outputs and verify information from reliable sources.
  • Promote Deeper Engagement: Discuss how AI can be a starting point, not an end point. Encourage your student to use AI to find new ways to learn or be creative, rather than just solving a problem quickly.
  • Course Syllabi: Read and discuss with your student. Be sure you discuss their AI policies and expectations.
